Nikon Create a giant killer! January 7, 2009 James W. Ricci Jr. (Eva, Alabama USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have recently purchased the new D90 from Nikon and can honestly say this new camera is one of the best I have ever used. I was looking originally to upgrade my Nikon D200 to the new Nikon D300 and stumbled upon the new D90. I currently have a Nikon D200, D70s, D40x and a whole bunch of Nikon Glass and Flashes, all of which are completely interchangeable with this new camera! I must say that I feel that Nikon has created a giant killer (the competition, especially for Canon). When you pick the unit up you will experience a well thought out and engineered product (you should always go to a brick and mortar store to try out a camera first for proper fit in hands, feel, aesthetics, etc.). Some people have complained that the D90 is too small for their hands. I am a really big guy who has big hands and though the unit is small in my hands, it is still comfortable to use and does not feel like a plastic throw-a-way like the Canons. I have added the MB-D80 Hand Grip to the D90 for additional surface area and better controls (plus additional battery capacity) and the unit feels just as good as my larger D200 which also has the MB-D200 Hand Grip for similar reasons. Regarding the D90's exceptional features, you will not go wrong here. The camera can serve both as a new bee unit for someone starting out or for a pro/enthusiast like myself with extremely fast shutter speeds, good 11 point focus area, and the real killer is the 720P HD Video capture capability...pure cream! I am sure glad I did not spend the extra money on the D300 as the reviews of the D90 are just as good as if not better than the D300...all for a camera costing a good $900.00 less! All-in-all, a very good investment here for anyone wanting a very excellent, fast, and fun DSLR!
Simple Review January 5, 2009 Deonsdreaming (Georgia) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm not a professional photographer, I use my camera as a hobby. This is the first major upgrade in a digital camera for me in ten years. Yeah I know, I know. But I waited until the right camera, with the right amount of megapixels for the right price came out. I don't like buying gear every three or four years becuse I just want to have it. So why I choose this the Nikon D90 camera? I get a camera that is fast enough (very important for me) so I don't miss a shot. I want to be creative with my photgraphy, and wanted lots of features. When I need to do large poster prints, I can do that with the high 12.3MP count. (I had 3.5MP with a point and shoot before this!) It's the right size for my hands! Very important. I never see anyone address this issue when shopping for a camera. I have large hands and long fingers, a small camera is very difficult to work with and is not very comfortable. Do yourself a favor go to any store and put the camera in your hands before you buy it! Does it feel solid in your hand? Are your fingers cramped? Is it to heavy or to light? The Movie mode was the tie breaker that made the difference between Nikon D90 and the Canon 50D. The Nikon D90 is more camera than I know how to useright now, but as you will notice from other users who have bought non prosumer cameras in the past they grow out of them fast. I'll have this camera until they come out with 36MP cameras (when ever that is). I'm looking forward to having this camera for many years and building my collection of lens slowly but shurly.
Amazing Camera at a Great Price! January 4, 2009 M. Losenbeck (Miami, FL) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
All I can say is WOW! This camera has done everything I want it to do and more. The picture quality is absolutely amazing. There are so many creative things you can do with this camera especially when you incorporate the hd movie mode which I have to say isn't as bad as I had thought although if you move it from one side to another too fast it will look sloppy. I love this camera much more than I had expected and the optical quality of the 18-105 is great as well. If you aren't sure where to go with this camera or perhaps a canon 40d or 50d this is most definitely the better choice! Happy Shooting!
excellent entry into the DSLR world December 25, 2008 Eugene Yoon (bay area, CA USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is my first "real" camera from the world of point and shoot cameras. I finally made the jump when I discovered that my trusty panasonic lumix could not keep up the antics of my [...] son. Having no real background in photography it was necessary that we choose a camera that was not only fast and versatile but was also as easy to use as our trusty P&S cameras. The D90 is such a beast. It's relatively fast at 4.5 fps so it can grab those shots of my son whirling about but as it's more of a "prosumer" camera than the D300, the pre-programmed shoot modes made it a breeze to use right out of the box. This ease of use made it much easier for me to learn how to use the camera more as it was intended. When I consider the ease of use along with features such as the excellent noise control in low light shooting and the excellent nikkor lens selection and availability I'm very happy with my purchase and easily recommend this camera to anyone looking to get a start in this hobby.
It makes me a better photographer December 24, 2008 Christopher Walsh (San Diego, CA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I am a novice photographer. This camera is so easy to use and produces such high quality pictures that it has made me seem like a much better photgrapher than I rightly deserve . I can usually find areas of single picture that has interest but not always the whole picture. Because of this camera, I can enhance those areas and create a good photograph from a mediocre one.
