Product Description Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 is more than just the world’s most popular and powerful Web design tool: As part of Creative Suite 4 (which includes Photoshop CS4 and Flash CS4), it’s a key component of an overall Web design workflow that encourages users to rely on all of their applications to seamlessly create graphically rich content for the Web and motion graphics. This information- and image-packed guide lets users get right down to work by providing exact steps for the Dreamweaver CS4 features they’re most likely to need and use, including new features like CSS-based page layout with Absolute Placement objects, Spry datasets for pages built with live data, Spry validation forms for collecting user input, and Spry effects. Dreamweaver CS4 How-tos May 30, 2010 Robert Sanabria (Leesburg, VA United States) The manual so far is adequate for a complete novice. However, an accompanying CD of exercises would help greatly, like that included with Garrick Chow's of lynda.comAdobe Dreamweaver CS3 Hands-On Training.
Don't Waste Your Money On This Book! March 11, 2010 GPDMTR25 (Sunny California) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I completely agree with J. Conroy's review (but I wouldn't even give it a star - it's a BIG waste of money!). I purchased this book and The Missing Manual. This book is not worth purchasing even for a novice. The book is set up as a list of 100 techniques you should know about Dreamweaver. Each topic is cover in 1 to 3 pages BUT the print is large and there's about an 1 1/2 inch margin on the top and bottom of the page then add the images and you're not left with much. (Also the side of each page has 2 inches of space. Sometimes there are short notes put in this space but not often). The book is thin and it appears they were struggling to make it thicker. You sure can't learn how to use Dreamweaver with this book. I guess it you wanted to understand a conversation about Dreamweaver it would be good, like the old Cliff Note books, but to actually use it to build a website - No way! Everything in the book you can search online and locate video tutorials for but if you really want to learn about Dreamweaver I'd recommend The Missing Manual. It's a very well written book that comes with the CD. The beginning of each chapter is an in depth explanations about a subject then at the end of the chapter you do an exercise to make sure you really understand how to do it. The CD contains the exercises so you can practice it on your own computer. As far as the How-to essentials - trust me it's not essential, it's not even useful.
Straight Forward Web Design - No Code Knowledge Necessary February 18, 2010 Shannon A. Fitzgerald 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After 6 years as a print designer, I was dreading the move to web. This is the third Dreamweaver book I've owned and the only one that hasn't given me a headache.
David Karlins blunt step by step instructions showed me what I needed to know without the headache. The instructions in this book showed me all the options I have when creating a website. From tables to AP Divs, this book laid out my options along with side notes that explained why or why not this method might have an issue.
I have ZERO code knowledge, and although it may be helpful for web design, this book allowed me to take my print design experience and methods and turn them into a website that not only looks nice, but functions flawlessly.
I highly suggest this book, along with the resources available on David Karlins website.
Great guide for busy people. January 28, 2010 Felix Leo 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Before getting this book I didn't know squat about website building and I assumed it had to be pretty difficult and time consuming. But already after the first chapter I got hooked.
The author leads you through Dreamweaver in a very easy to follow, pleasant and quick way. In no time I understood the principles behind the program and I was able to post a few test pages on the internet.
This book gave me exactly what I was looking for: information, confidence and motivation.
If you want to get a solid grip on Dreamweaver and don't have time (and money) to waste, this book's for you.
Step By Step January 28, 2010 Christopher G. Bond 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book will guide you in step by step manner from the basics of Dreamweaver to more advanced features, the chapters are easy to navigate through so if you run into a specific problem with DW finding the trouble shoot is very easy, this is the only DW book I have read so I can not compare it to any of the others but i did find it very useful and figured i would submit a review.
